Malas Meninas

At Pikolinos we are committed to a society full of opportunities to everyone. Therefore, by launching the “Malas Meninas” line of bags we are contributing to Women’s Social Integration Programme (known by the Spanish acronym PRM). This organisation strives to improve the social and occupational integration of women at risk of exclusion by helping them to surmount social obstacles. In this way, they have the opportunity to successfully gain access to the labour market and prosper in the near future.

Within the framework of PRM, run by Rosa Escandell, there is a project called “Social and Occupational Integration of Female Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners”, through which women can learn textile and craft skills. They have access to a personalised training programme in line with their own particular circumstances with the aim of easing their socio-occupational integration. Under the name “Malas Meninas”, these women have manufactured a series of household textile products.

According to Esther Esquembre, project coordinator in Villena, “working in a training programme means a great deal to these women. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn skills in the clothing industry and build up positive expectations for a promising future in society”.

PRM director, Rosa Escandell, states that “it poses a challenge, because when these women are released they have nothing, nobody takes them on, nobody gives them a chance”. “Thanks to this project we’re developing these women will be released after having been trained and gained an idea of the real world,” she points out.

The “Malas Meninas” bags for Pikolinos are available at our stores in Spain.
